Hot Springs, North Carolina, a resort destination for almost 200 years, has long been renowned for its healing mineral springs and scenic Smoky Mountain views.  Native Americans discovered the hot water bubbling up along the banks of the French Broad River and enjoyed the soothing effect from bathing in it.  The  town of Hot Springs received its name from this phenomenon.

Hot Springs, NC Is located about 35 miles north of Asheville.  It is in a valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains at the intersection of the Appalachian Trail and the French Broad River, and is surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest just a few miles east of the Tennessee state line.  Hot Springs is the only town in North Carolina that the Appalachian Trail traverses.  The sidewalk through the middle of town is actually the Appalachian Trail.

Hot Springs, North Carolina is a small town of about 700 people and has a wide range of places to dine from a nice diner type meal at the Smoky Mountain Diner, to a gourmet meal at Martha's, located at the Mountain Magnolia Inn.

Hot Springs hosts several music festivals and art shows and a large motorcycle rally during the year.

Hot Springs is a great vacation destination.  The atmosphere is laid back, and is a friendly and peaceful respite from most busy destinations like Gatlinburg.  Here you will find friendly folks to strike a conversation with.  There is great trout fishing in the rivers and creeks around the town.  There are many outdoor activities as well.  Some couples escape to this small town for a romantic getaway, an anniversary celebration or  wedding.  You can be lulled asleep by the sounds of nature and water flowing down the mountain, especially at your vacation retreat at Dancing Sun Cabins.
